What is “Passover”?

Josephine Gift, Seat of Wisdom Primary School

“Passover” is a Jewish festival during which Jews remember how God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. The story is in the Bible in the Old Testament in the Book of Exodus, chapter 12. Briefly, the story shows how God sent an angel of death to kill the firstborn sons of the Egyptians. In order to save the children of the Israelites, God told Moses to order the Israelite families to sacrifice a lamb and smear the blood on the doors of their houses. In that way, the angel would know the house belonged to an Israelite and “pass over” it. Please get a Bible and read the whole story.
