Bugema University Installs New Vice Chancellor On Saturday

Pastor Dr Masiko Kafeero is set to be installed as the sixth Vice Chancellor of Bugema University on Saturday.

The function will be presided over by the Archbishop of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda who is also the University Chancellor Pastor Dr Moses Maka Ndimukika.

Bugema University was chartered June 29, 2009

Dr Kafeero was appointed vice chancellor of the only Adventist higher institution of learning in Uganda on January 23, 2023 during a special sitting of the university council at the main campus in Luwero district.

Dr Kafeero replaces Ghanaian Prof Patrick Manu whose term expired in 2021.

Prof Paul Katamba, who has been serving as the acting vice chancellor was also appointed the first deputy vice-chancellor in charge of academics.

The university started as a training school for teachers and pastors for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in East Africa. At that time, it was called Bugema Missionary Training School before it transformed into modern-day Bugema University.

Who is Kafeero?

  • Masiko Kafeero hails from Bamunanika County Luwero district. He matriculated from Damascus Primary School Kiwanguzi, Katikamu SDA Primary and Secondary Schools, and Ibanda Boys High school.

Kafeero holds Bachelor’s degree in Theology from Bugema University, a Master’s degree in Divinity and a PhD in religious studies from US-based Andrews University.

He worked as a teacher at Namulesa Primary School, Kitswamba SDA Secondary School in Kasese and Bugema SDA Secondary School.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Theology from Bugema University in 1992, he served as a Church Pastor at Makindye, before proceeding to Andrews University, Michigan, USA, where he obtained a Master of Divinity in 1999) and a PhD in Religious Education (2009). He lectured at Bugema University where he headed the department of professional growth.

  • 2009-2010: Lecturer at Bugema University
  • 2011-2014:  Uganda Union Youth and Chaplaincy Director
  • Elected Executive Secretary of Uganda Union of Seventh-day Adventist.
  • 2019: Appointed head of the department of applied theology at the Adventist University of Africa in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • He is married to Sarah Nalwanga for the past 30 years with whom they have three children and four grandchildren.
