Robert Muhangi and Owen Kiiza have master’s degrees and are among the 20 students who benefitted from the 2012/2013 Tullow Group Scholarships.
Muhangi did his degree in management sciences and finance at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom whereas Kiiza went for a Master’s of Science degree in International Tourism and hospitality management.
“I have learnt a lot and this course has made me believe that nothing is impossible given the right attitude and right opportunities,” says Muhangi, who hails from Buliisa district.
The two, who returned in November last year say they are now fully equipped to tap into the growing oil and gas industry that has come with a number of opportunities. The Legacy Scholarship Program This is an initiative of the Invisible Children and it provides scholarships and mentoring to secondary and vocational students from Gulu, Amuru, Nwoya, Pader, Kitgum, Lamwo, and Agago districts of northern Uganda and university students from the Acholi, Lango, West Nile, Teso and Karamoja sub-regions.
Selection is based on two major factors; Academic performance and level of vulnerability which includes children who are orphans, heads of their households, living with HIV/AIDS, were at one point abducted by the LRA, or young mothers. Global Institute of Information Technology and Business The institute that has its campus at Haruna Towers, Ku Bbiri roundabout, Wandegeya Kampala, is offering scholarships for S4, S6 leavers as well those that want to change careers or upgrade.
These are specific for the January and February intake. The scholarships are for deserving students in such disciplines as Oil and Gas, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Medical Records and Health Information Management, Information Technology, Business Administration, Graphics and Animation, Accounting and Finance, Journalism (radio and TV), Human Resources Management, Catering, Tourism, Fashion and Design, Cosmetology, Film and Movie Making and many others.

The Muljibhai Madhvani Foundation These scholarships are in form of a grant payable directly to the University or Institution on behalf of the beneficiaries. On completion of studies, beneficiaries are expected to make voluntary contributions or donations to the scholarship. Retakes in one or more subjects would entail withdrawal of the scholarship.
For undergraduates, the scholarship covers tuition fees from the second year to completion whereas for graduate students, it covers the entire programme of study from the time of the award.
Undergraduate students, who have completed their first year of studies at a Ugandan University with a CGPA of 2.2 and above; and, graduate applicants who have been either admitted and/or registered for graduate programmes (in selected disciplines), are eligible to apply.
The financial status of the applicants, their parents, families and/or spouses are always scrutinised to assess their relative financial needs.
For postgraduate applicants work experience in the relevant field of study gives one leverage for the award of Scholarship. Invitations for applications are always made through print and other media during the months of May/June for the September and October scholarships every year.
Kampala International University (KIU) KIU is offering scholarships for medical officers who would want to do postgraduate studies. Applicants with BSCs veterinary medicine, dentistry, biomedical, clinical medicine and community health are legible for this scholarship.
Applications can be dropped at the KIU main campus at Kansanga or the different liaison offices in Nairobi and Dar-es[1]salaam.
