It’s probably the world most controversial topic, seeing as many love to engage in it (orally and otherwise), but at the same time dread being caught engaging in it. It’s the one thing you want your children to understand, but the last thing you want them to engage in, verbally or otherwise. It is the topic of sex. Mention sex education and you have opened not just a simple can of innocent worms, but an entire Pandora’s box. Why?
Barring society’s permissiveness which has made sex a thing of wanton engagement, it was always meant to be sacred — something ordained by God to serve two special purposes: Be the glue that cements the bond of a man and a woman in a marital union and to facilitate the propagation of the human race. All else is background noise.
Unfortunately, that is only the ideal. Right now, sex has been turned into entertainment, a currency, a punishment, a control measure, proof of power and many other unpleasant, ungodly things.
Cementing the marital bond and procreation have been reduced to secondary position; mere matters arising, when they are allowed to arise!
This is why the topic of sex education cannot be pushed under the proverbial carpet. This is also why, sadly, this topic has been hijacked and infused with ingredients that make it distasteful, because the people who do not want to keep sex in its proper place don’t want you to run to sex education as a means of keeping your child safe around the entire world of sex.
They don’t want your child to know that sex can be abused (employed abnormally) for subjugation, illicit commercial gain, enslaving one and so on. They want to take God out of the whole concept of sex, then go ahead and do whatever they want with it, so that when you try to reintroduce God into the equation, your own child views you as outdated and “too puritanical.”
The world is now divided on the lines of whether the COVID-19 vaccine is good or not; whether it is safe or not; whether it is genuine or not. This is because vaccines are a critical element of controlling killer conditions, of which COVID-19 is one. Sex education is like that.
It is a vaccine that will fight all the “maladies” I listed above. A child who is given timely, healthy sex education is one who will not be caught off-guard when the perpetrators of sex abuse strike. For the abusers of everything sexual are everywhere.
There’s reported rampant homosexuality and lesbianism in schools; there are rapists in homes, schools, public transport and workplaces; there’s sex-for-favours in offices and universities and we all know about the prevalence of early (unwanted) pregnancies in Uganda.
The justification for sex education is all over around us; it is the will and the method by which it can best be done that are lacking.
Well, many are certainly willing, but just nudge them a bit and say, “do it”, and you will see the majority of them turn to jelly! Sheer trepidation! Why? See where we began from at the top of this article.
