FORT PORTAL – Mountains of the Moon University in Fort Portal has entered into an academic cooperation project with the Germany-based Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences.
The cooperation project between the two universities will go a long way in reshaping the students from classwork teaching to competence-based practical work for better employability as well as finding on-farm solutions to farmers’ concerns through research and innovation.
The cooperation between the two institutions was cemented by Matthias Schauer, the Germany Ambassador to Uganda, during his visit to Mountains of the Moon University on Friday, April 28.
Schauer visited several of the university’s projects and farmers whom the cooperation will also benefit.
He appreciated the fact that the cooperation project will majorly involve hands application of science to improve farm produce, post-harvest handling and value addition to help farmers benefit more from their produce.
Prof Dr Ralf Schlauderer said that supporting farmers with academic-based science, research and innovation, is in line with their vision as an academic institution.
Clovis Kabaseke, the project coordinator, said the cooperation between the two institutions will help bridge the existing gap between theory and practical training among university students.
Coxwel Achanga, the Mountains of the Moon University vice-chancellor, explained that their main focus is to provide real-time solutions to farmers’ problems by using science to improve production and productivity for improved household income.
