KAMULI – At least 5,500 patriotism students have been commissioned as young cadres in Kamuli district and have been urged to grow the spirit of loving Uganda, respecting their parents and studying hard to build a better country.

At the final event held at Kagumba Seed Secondary School in Kagumba sub-county on Saturday, the commissioner for patriotism in the Office of the President, Mubarak Magomu, urged the young generation to desist from being sucked into activities aimed at reversing the country into anarchy.

“Uganda has developed because of the prevailing peace. The self-seekers who want to reverse bad politics and waging military wars are Uganda’s first enemy,” Magomu said.

He warned against having ill minds towards the Government, saying that having led Uganda for 35 years now, the Government has much better plans for Ugandans.

“You may be sucked in by the dirty politics, but bear in mind that it is the duty of the elite including you, the incoming, to steer the nation in the right direction,” he said.

Supported by the Office of the President, patriotism courses are promoted to mentor students in good governance, integrity, accountability and entrepreneurship, among others.

Hailing the school administrators for embracing patriotism, Magomu said such training mould the children’s future to become future security personnel to the nation’s sovereignty.

The cadres showcased military skills, which included marching, bullet targeting, fighting the enemy in the jungle, disarming and disabling the enemy, and the use and safety of the rifle.

Other pass-outs were held at Kamuli College, Busoga High-Kamuli, Kamuli Progressive College, Kamuli Girls Secondary School, Bupahdengo SS, Nawanyago College (NACO), Royal College-Kamuli, among others.

Kagumba Seed School headteacher, Charles Birimunda, lauded the National Resistance Movement party government for the ongoing construction of the complex, adding that even before completion, the enrollment shot to 335 from 29 in a space of four months.

Kamuli Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Rose Birungi, Deputy RDC Sarah Kasadha, District patriotism co-ordinator John Ngobi and Kamuli district education officer Joseph Waibi, among others, attended the function.
