Teachers Start 10-Day Trip In Ireland

Winners of the 2019 and 2020 New Vision Teachers Making A Difference competition are in Ireland for a 10-day professional development programme.

The teachers are Sr Gladyce Kachope of Immaculate Heart Girls School Rukungiri, Rose Moiti of Busesa Mixed Primary School Iganga, Juliet Tracy Nansubuga of Gayaza High School, Samuel Abong of Naitakwe Primary School Moroto and Frank Manyindo Mugene of Ntare School. Others are Susan Okello of Kotido Mixed Primary School, Buluhani Mulongo of Hama Island Primary School Namayingo, Sr Prossy Nantege of Kalas Girls Primary School Amudat, Ernest Kavulu of Budo Junior school, Raymond Kigongo of St Joseph’s Secondary School in Nkooko, Kakumiro and Norah Anyait of Chepkararat Primary School in Amudat.

One of the winners, Sr Teopista Namukasa of Mary Immaculate Primary School Kalungu could not travel on doctor’s advice. Also on the team are Lorraine Gallagher, the head of co-operation and deputy head of mission at the Embassy of Ireland in Kampala; Naome Muhwezi, the education adviser at the embassy and Bonita Fauchan, the embassy’s education executive.

For the first time, education ministry officials are also participating in the trip. The ministry team is led by Dr Jane Egau Okou, the director of higher technical vocational education and training. Others on the team are Max Okiror, the assistant commissioner teacher education and training, as well as Benan Steven Kamusongwe, the principal of Moroto Core Primary Teacher’s College.

Teachers Making A Difference is part of Ugandans Making A Difference project initiated by New Vision to recognise and reward teachers who have gone the extra mile and used limited resources to greatly impact their learners and school communities.
