The first prime minister of Uganda was Benedicto Kiwanuka. He was the leader of the Democratic Party (DP). In 1961, when DP won the general elections, he became the first prime minister of Uganda. However, his reign did not last long because when the elections were repeated in 1962, it is the leader of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Apollo Milton Obote who won. He was the prime minister at Independence on October 9 of that year.
