Police has encouraged children to actively take part in the prevention of fires.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Joseph Mugisa, said children need to learn how to avoid and control fires.

“If you see someone tampering with an electronic cooker, sockets or wires, tell them to stop because it can cause a fire,” he said.

Mugisa made the remarks during the launch of ‘Cool Kids Stop Fires’, a campaign that was designed by Vivo Energy to sensitise school children about causes of fires and how they can be prevented. This was at Green Hill Academy, Kibuli in Kampala, recently.

George Mutekanga, the Assistant Commissioner in charge of private schools, said fires in schools affect pupils, teachers, parents and the community.

Johan Grobbelaar, the managing director of Vivo Energy Uganda, said they will partner with the Police and the Education Ministry to sensitise schools on causes of fires and their prevention.
