Your Safety: How To Deal With Strangers

By Francis Emukule

Hello, children! I hope school is going well for you. Today, I want us to talk about stranger safety and knowing when to shout, run or report.

A stranger is a person you do not know. It is important that you do not talk to strangers or go anywhere with them, even if they seem nice.

We see strangers every day and they are usually nice and friendly. We do not have to be afraid of strangers, but we should always make smart choices around people we do not know.

Being smart means not being alone with someone you do not know. For example, if you love dogs and you come across one belonging to someone you do not know, do not be tempted to take it in as a pet. If the owner is a bad person, they might harm you.

If a stranger asks you to join them in their car, do not get in. Say no to him or her. If they insist on taking you into their car or house, run to your parents and tell them what happened. This way, mom and dad can always protect you by never letting you walk alone.

Strangers you meet might have attractive items such as pets, candy and money. They might even ask you for help. However, stranger safety means you do not go anywhere with a person you do not know.

If someone usually picks you up from school, wait for them. If they delay, get back to your class teacher and tell them your ride has delayed to come so that the teacher can help you wait, until you are picked up.

Most strangers seem to be good people, but always follow the stranger safety rule to be safe. Run and tell your mother, father or any responsible adult about them.
